Calibrate Moral Compass
So if you have a moral compass app you might also need a moral
compass adjustment app.
To see how this might work you need to understand how you would
calibrate a normal magnetic compass, and think about how you
would do that. You need a reference point.
So first we consider what a moral compass might be useful for.
There are two main uses:
1) Get along in large groups
2) Figure out what to do in your life, ( what to do next )
For calibration I think the first issue is most important.
So we have to figure out, get a general sense for ,
what does everyone, collectively want or need.
And number one on that list I think is hope. Everyone
needs that. And that hope means mostly the opportunity to
live a decent life and high on that list would be safety,
health, and happiness. So if we calibrate our compasses
on those common goals, we begin to see the type of
behaviors generally that might be needed to achieve it
both for ourselves, but also more generally, for family,
community, region, nation and on to the globe or planet.
Number one then on the list I think we need to put
compassion. That works well, not just for ourselves but
also for those around us, and as we begin to practice compassion,
other helpful behaviors begin to emerge, like honesty,
generosity, kindness, understanding, and patience. And
as we explore more, we begin to find out other behaviors,
sometimes more subtle which can assist us in our achieving
our moral enabled abilities.
Well, this is just a glimpse at what might be contained in
a moral compass calibration app. Some real learning
and effort might be required as well. But we must always
keep our eyes on how to do it and be " user friendly ",,,,,
and we note that this calibration is mostly focused on
the first principal use of a moral compass. As we view
more closely the second application, we see that
some fine tuning comes into play, which we will discuss
more at a later time.
